Executive Vice President and General Counsel
Tom
has more that 30 years of experience in the
title business. He
began his career in Fort Worth after graduating
from Texas
Tech University School of Law in Lubbock
in 1972. His
background includes both the private practice
of law and a long and successful career as an
officer of numerous title companies in the Dallas/Fort
Worth Metropolitan area.
Having spent the last 13 years
with a large title agency in Dallas as its Executive
Vice President and General Counsel and being responsible
for some 50 offices in three counties, Tom joined two
other former executives with that title agency to form,
grow and manage Capital Title of Texas, LLC,
serving as its Executive Vice President and General
Counsel. He is an equity partner of Capital
Title and is a member of its Board of Directors.
As
with any newly formed company, the duties of the
management staff are vast. Tom
and his staff are primarily responsible for the company’s
policies and procedures, escrow accounting, underwriter
relations, regulatory compliance, training, customer
and client assistance, document preparation and review,
assisting in preparation for both residential and commercial
closings as well as the management of multiple offices
and staffs.
In
addition to duties with the company, he is a speaker
at various real estate functions, has written articles
for numerous trade publications and served as Editor
for a real estate text book. He
also participates in real estate litigation consultation,
Tax Exchanges under section 1031 of the IRS Code and
provides counsel in complex real estate transactions. He
is an active member of The State Bar of Texas, The
Dallas Bar Association, The Texas General Counsel’s
Association and The Texas Land Title Association. Tom
is also the Managing Member of the law firm, Naler & Associates,
PLLC, and is an equity partner in a local real
estate development company.
Even
with a full business calendar, Tom and his wife,
Cathy, find time for each other and for involvement
in community activities as well as travel—usually to their “other home” in
the mountains of Western North Carolina. Of course,
there is always time for his grandsons, Sam and Jack,
the children of his son, Chris, and of his daughter,
Hillary, and their families.
